Why Choose Mediation? Attorneys recommend mediation because it tends to be less expensive, faster, simpler and less stressful for the client. Since spouses work together and must agree to the terms of the divorce mediation agreement, they tend to be more satisfied with the outcome than if a judge rules on a settlement verdict from the bench.

How Does Mediation Work?

Mediation requires at least three people: you, your spouse, and a mediator. A mediator is a neutral third party whose only job is to help the two sides craft a mutually acceptable settlement agreement. The mediator will also explain your rights and help you form realistic expectations.

During mediation, you and your spouse can work together to hammer out an agreement that addresses all the important issues in a divorce. The mediator helps spouses agree upon the terms, conditions, concessions and requests. Bit by bit, the spouses reach a mutually acceptable settlement agreement.

Jack Benoun, the divorce mediator / collaborative law attorney at our firm, has nearly 40 years of family law experience. He can serve as the mediator for your divorce, or he can represent you in mediation. He has successfully helped many couples settle their case.
